Plein Air Painting

Description:

Enjoy experimental learning in a Plein Air Workshop. Meet other artists with similar interests in nature. Creatives will work directly from life and focus on florals or plants, either in a still life or landscape. Students will focus on composition, shape, color, and depth in their painting. Oil painters and acrylic painters will use the technique of Alla Prima or Direct Painting where pigments are mixed on the pallet are laid on in a single application. Pastel artists will build color with expressive line, scumbling, blending, feathering ect… No drying time needed for chalk pastels.

About Your Instructor: Lisa Granata holds Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in General Fine Arts from the Maryland Institute College of Art. She has a Master of Fine Arts degree in Painting from Cranbrook Academy of Art and a year’s study in Florence Italy at Studio Arts Center International. Lisa lectures and in the Art and Communications department at Lasell University. She teaches Studio Art classes at the Attleboro Arts Museum School to students of all ages and serves on the Exhibitions & Collections Committee. Lisa enjoys presenting lectures, demonstrations, and workshops throughout southern New England. Her art exhibition record includes galleries and museums on the East Coast, in the Midwest, and in Italy.

SCHEDULE:
• 10:00: Arrive and set up easels, supplies, and flowers
• 10:15: Use viewfinders to find a strong composition and sketch out large shapes onto canvas or paper
• 10:30: Block in color in the large shapes. Avoid adding detail or blending. Painters will be using the direct painting method
• 11:30: Students will have lunch in Briggs Café
• 12:15: Students will add detail to their landscapes or florals
• 1:45: Students will clean up their supplies
• Feel free to visit the garden center to buy plants for your gardens on the way out
