At Briggs Nursery, sustainability and environmental protection is a key goal throughout everyday operations. We pride ourselves in providing a clean, eco-friendly garden center for all to enjoy. 365 days a year we are making countless efforts to Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.

Our team of Garden experts work diligently everyday, weeding our nursery stock and multiple garden beds by hand. Doing this reduces the amount of herbicide used throughout the Garden Center, creating healthier and cleaner run off water.Many times at Briggs we have over 100,000 plants, trees and shrubs on property, each one of these is individually hand watered, cutting down our of overall water usage and also promotes healthier plant growth, eliminating the need for corrective chemical applications.

One of our largest efforts in sustainability is our commitment to composting material. Our compost pile is being added to on a daily basis. Organic material such as weeds, leaves, grass shavings, and even unwanted food in our Cafe goes to compost and is turned into fertile soil used through the garden center for various projects.

One of the largest projects done every year is the planting of over 2,000 individual plants in the various garden beds on our property, as well as in front of our newly aquired billboard, on Interstate 95. Each one of these plants ingest carbon dioxide, CO2 and convert it releasing clean Oxygen back into the air.

In 2008, we reconstructed our main store and our greenhouses. Each greenhouse is constructed with a state of the art ventilation system. Incorporating vail-atrium vents on the ceilings, as well as guillotine vents on the sides, together make one of the most efficent venting systems available on the market today. Along with the new building in 2008, came many other green initiatives.

We now have the space to grow many of our own plants in one of our greenhouses, thus cutting down tremendously on shipping fuel. Another product we offer to 100% biodegradable trunk liners, free of charge, with every purchase. These liners help to keep cars free of soils and other contaminents, without hurting the environment.
